Cripple Wall Bracing: Foundation Repair For Foundation Problems
Foundation Bolting
Many older home are held onto the foundation by gravity alone, and are not protected against the lateral forces of an earthquake. A large earthquake can actually cause the structure to slide off the foundation. Foundation bolting will firmly attach the framing of the house to the perimeter foundation, securing it against even the largest earthquake.
House Bolting
An experienced house bolting contractor will drill through the sill plate six inches into the concrete foundation and install an expansion bolt every six feet for a one story structure and every four feet for a two story building. If the foundation is too weak or damaged to use an expansion bolt, the bolt is held in place with epoxy. The bolt is fastened down with a nut and square washer. If there is not enough space to drill into the foundation from above, special plates are installed which bolt into the foundation and the sill plate from the side.Concrete Foundation Repair
Though simple in theory, the difficulties inherent in concrete foundation repair: working in a confined crawl space, navigating code specifications, and safety issues, make it advisable to hire a licensed contractor for foundation bolting work. Proper house bolting along with cripple and shear wall reinforcement will ensure that you have the greatest possible protection for your largest investment in case of an earthquake.
