Here Is A Look At How A Generic Cripple Bracing Job Is Done
Here the holes for the anchor bolts are being drilled.
Inserting the bolt into the predrilled hole..
Driving the bolt down into the hole.
Next, the bolt is tightened down.
The properly installed anchor bolt. NOTE: If a house has cripple walls and an unbolted foundation, the two jobs must be done together. Otherwise you are paying money to help secure your house only in part.
Here we install additional cripple studs to be able to properly install the shear paneling.
We also install blocking so we can fasten the shear paneling along the bottom.
Nails being placed on the perimeter of the shear paneling should be spaced 4 inches.
To help prevent deterioration of the cripple wall members, we drill breather holes so air will be allowed to circulate within the shear panels.
There should be 2 ventilation holes between each cripple stud.
Installed properly, here is the final product. This house is now better protected from lateral movement during an earthquake.
